Decoupage Paper Napkin Dollar Tree Bunny Sign
Dollar Tree is one of my favorite place to get inexpensive canvases for creating. I had been on the lookout for the last few weeks for a bunny sign that would work with my JOY decoupage napkins for an idea I had in mind...
SUPPLIES
- Dollar Tree aluminum bunny shape sign
- JOY decoupage Napkin
- Mod Podge
- White Paint (this is the kind I love using- it coats well and dries quickly).
- Craft Twine
- Hot Glue
- Paper & Burlap Flowers (I get mine from Michaels or Hobby Lobby)
Next I laid out the napkin to see how much I needed to cover the bunny fully and then cut the JOY design and put to the side. You'll want to carefully separate the napkin layers as well so you are just working with the top layer.
Then I applied a thin layer of Mod Podge working from the bottom up I applied the napkin, carefully smoothing with saran wrap as I worked up.
***Tip, the napkin is VERY thin so take care to gently smooth and not overwork it to avoid tearing. If it does tear (as mine did) then you can apply smaller torn pieces of the extra napkin to cover the spots.
After the sign was fully covered and dry I flipped it over and decoupage edged along the outside and then went over it again in mod podge to finish the edges. You'll also want to punch out the holes in the ears with the end of your brush so you can add the hanging string back on later.
Next I decided where I wanted the "JOY" scripture wording to be and applied a light thin coat of white paint to ensure the wording would stand out out once applied.
Then I decoupage edged the "JOY" section and applied it over the painted spot with the mod podge.
Lastly I took the twine to make a bow around the neck and hot glued one of the burlap flowers and then added the remaining flowers to the opposite ear and reattached the original sign holder.
If you try this project I'd love to see it!
